Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, we will sum up all the frequently asked questions by first time cruisers. I know many crusing first time will have tones of questions like I did. This FAQ section will try to cover questions I came across and answered in other forums, boards and via emails. Also we will update this section frequently when I see new questions.

Money Matters

Tell me about tipping on Cruise Ships...

They automatically add the tips of $10 per day to your onboard expense card. You can opt to take it out which i strongly recommend. Then you can tip the individual yourself personally. Because if you are going as a family, they charge $10/per person /day instead you can just tip the inviduals as a one amount..

How much cash should I take?

It depends on how you want to spend on the ship and ports. Usually you can charge all your expenses on the ship in your credit card. So you usually don't need money to spend on the cruise. You only need $1, $5's for tipping purpose. But you surely need money to spend offshore or on the port. It depends on your destination. In most places, they accept dollars and you can use the dollars according to the local money converstion. Also the amount depends on your cruise party count. So calculate accordingly and carry $1, $5 and $10's to help you better to spend easily because they don't give change in dollars.

Can I take Travellers Cheque for safety?

Yes you can. Most ships will help you cash your travellers cheque with a charge. It won't hurt but in the part its tough to find places to cash them and get money in dollars.
