Where to go?
The single most reason really helped in making my decision easy and faster to go
on a cruise was Cruise Port near us. Galveston Port(Houston) is just 1 and half
hour drive from my place. Carnival and Royal Carribean sail to Carribean and other
destinations from our port. We didn't have to fly to Miami or any other port to
take cruise which might have added up the cost and as well us time and tiredness.
Recommendation #1
Like me, you may be lucky to live to along the coastal area which serves as cruise
port. If you are, I would strongly recommend to take your first cruise from the
port near you.
If you are not lucky and close enough but atleast 4-5 hours drive from the port,
you can easily take drive one day before or bit in advance according to the cruise
timings instead of flying. Many hotels and resorts accomodate free parking and shuttle
service for Cruisers. So you can just drive down, check out the port for day or
night and take your cruise next day in a relaxed way.
My strong recommendation for first time cruiser, is to consider taking a cruise
from the port closer to them which will avoid all sort of post cruise tensions and
give you better experience.
Recommendation #2
If you are not close enough and had to take a flight, check out whether your place
or city is the hub for major flight carrier. Many carriers including Continental,
Southwest run a package deal to favorite Cruise ports which might be good option
to start. If not, try otherway around. Find a port close to a major flight carrier
hub which sometimes offer good rates on their flights from your place. Like Continental
offers, good flight rates from any place to Houston most of the time without connection.
There are Cruise ports all over USA. Check out the map below to find which port
is close to your place. Use proper recommedation to save money and time to have
best cruise experience.
